I suppose if you're pregnant and avidly avoiding microwaves and runny cheeses and car exhaust, it makes sense to avoid things like parabens and phthalates too. Which is why I was intrigued by a very caring company called Nine Naturals which has created a nice little line of natural hair care products made just for moms-to-be.

The light, clean, minty Oh, Baby! shampoo and conditioner have ingredient lists that read like a trip to the natural foods market: Olive oil, salt, wheat protein, corn sugar, aloe vera and so on. It sure does inspire a whole lot of confidence, at a time in your life when confidence is at a premium.

The very gentle shampoo might not be ideal if you've got a crazy thick rat's nest of a mane like mine, and you do have to get used to the fact that you won't get a big lather going. But my sigOth loved it, and it was great on the kids. Of course at about $18 a bottle. you probably don't want to waste it on your children. But boy, it was nice not having them smell like a grape popsicle right out of the tub for a change. -Liz
