If you've had a baby, you probably know what I mean when I say that during all four births for me, there was always a point when I thought I might die. You've used all your physical strength breathing and having contractions and back pain. You've used all your emotional strength floating in and out of pain and giving yourself pep talks. But of course when I had these issues, I was nestled in the heart of a modern hospital with nurses and doctors all around me.
And during the birth of my youngest, when his heart rate dropped so low that everyone's face in the room went white, and then everyone got so busy so quickly...well let's say I am one of the lucky ones in this world to end up with a perfect, happy child at the end of it all.
I tell you this story just so you'll know how wonderful I think The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood is with their mission to save the lives of women and newborns in childbirth, around the world, by getting pregnant women access to good medical care. Liz first wrote about the WRA this past fall, and we've all been fans ever since.
If you want to support them, now there's something you can do. And it's fun! The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood is asking people around the globe to wear white and hold a dinner party sometime in March to honor the 100th year of International Women's Day on March 8th. They ask you to please get together with your friends, have some fun and join the global celebration of women and newborns saved, and also to remember those lost.
You could even turn it into a fundraiser and send them the money earned, or ask each guest to commit to one simple thing they'll do for the cause, from posting a button on a blog to hosting a bake sale or writing a check. You can find all the details on their website.
