The only thing better is encouraging literacy across the world, and that happens today.
Nearly one billion people entered the 21st century unable to read, and World Read Aloud Day is trying to change that statistic. On March 9, this global movement is motivating parents, teens, and children to explore the power of the written word through reading, activities, and celebrating excitement for storytelling.
Hit the site to see their action page with ways to participate and spread the word. (Hint: It's as easy as reading aloud!)
As I sit with my laptop next to a Nook and a stack of paperbacks, begging my children to settle for reading just three books before nap, it's so easy to forget that some kids will go their entire lives without reading a book. Changing that would be the Happiest Ever After of all.~Delilah
