Much to my daughters' delight, metallics and glitter are a hot trend for the back to school season, but with so many options, it can be tough to pick. So we scoured the web for the coolest kicks that will let your little or big girl shine for the entire school year--because these are shoes that are meant to last. Maybe even through a second kid.
As seen on our back to school shopping guide, TOMS glitters are now out, in slip-on styles for big kids and babies, or mary janes for little ones. They come in 6 gorgeous colors, and it's a sturdy glittery fabric, not sequins, so you're not going to end up with glitter all over your floor--or bald spots on your kid's sneakers. ($34 and up)

I can't take my eye off the gorgeous Umi ballet flat boots, also featured in our back to school shopping guide. I'm a huge fan of the comfort and quality of Umi shoes, which have lasted us through two girls, soon to be three. ($75)
Umi has some cool metallic sneaks too, with their silver sneakers for boys that not only look great now, they'll keep looking great since they're machine washable. ($59)
My girls live in the Cienta kids' shoes, but for the school year, we added their glitter shoes to the mix. They're a cool update to the ubiquitous black (or gold or silver or purple) mary janes, and the glitter fabric means no teeny shiny pieces all over your house. ($32.99 and up at Zappos)
All of my kids have worn See Kai Run shoes, but this season in particular, I'm smitten with the Tanya shoes in silver are a more subtle way to wear metallics. And I love the tiny pink detail on the heel that adds just the right pop of color. ($56)
For your littler students, the Pio Pio Gold shoes with the adorable purple bird detail from Cool Mom Picks fave Livie and Luca are beyond cute. They're perfect for the first day of preschool! Provided painting doesn't start until day two. ($49)
I'm completely addicted to Tea Collection clothes and their shoe offerings are no exception. My girls would look so sweet in these pretty Garvalin ballet flats, which just so happen to be on sale. Yes! (On sale for $54.50)
