With snow hopefully behind us, we're happy to pack away our heavy coats and mittens. But when these days of spring turn rainy, a bright cheery raincoat can help keep our kids dry...and maybe even coax them outside to sing (and play) in the rain. -Christina

We all know that April showers bring May flowers; I hope they are as pretty as those on Marimekko's Hili 1 raincoat with its iconic pattern. (Yes, we're on a Marimekko kick lately with their new dishes for kids and fun baby clothes.) And for those extra-stormy days, I appreciate the reflective safety stripes on the cuffs. ($68, sizes 12-18 months)

You can also break through the gloom with Marimekko's Josua 1 raincoat in sunny yellow with an adorable robot lining. Snap pockets can hold any treasures they find while exploring. Let's hope they don't collect worms. ($68, sizes 12-18 months)

For kids who aren't quite ready to give up their favorite winter sport, Western Chief's PVC-free Snowboard Raincoat features a cool, and not-too-obvious, snowboard/camo pattern in a subtle gray at a great price too. (on sale for $29.99, sizes 2T-6x at Piperlime)

What a gorgeous and modern color combination, this raincoat by Hatley Kids in teal and red would look great on little ones, as well as tweens who aren't into childish patterns. The longer cut also helps prevent the dreaded "wet bottom" when sitting on the school bus. ($69.95, sizes 4-12 at dll rainwear)

Cute, but not cutesy, Hatley Kids Red Dots Raincoat would look sweet on little kids who want to splash in some puddles. ($40, sizes 3T-6 at dll rainwear)

Appaman's more sophisticated trench coat style still looks kid-friendly in this beautiful huckleberry color, or in bright coral. Just the idea of seeing a toddler coming at me in their size 2T makes me smile. ($64, sizes 2T-10)

Nice and long and with a protective hood, Gap Kids' bigger-sized preppy-green rain jacket is ideal for older kids who absolutely refuse to stand under an umbrella. ($49.95, sizes XL-XXL)

Polarn O. Pyret's Spring Cloud Rain Jacket comes in mud-hiding brown or sunshiny yellow. Only available in infant sizes, 6-12 months, but this sale price is great for those too young to puddle-jump on their own. (on sale for $20.25, size 6-12 months)

Mini Boden's generous Fisherman's Jacket comes in three colors and in sizes for toddlers up through tweens. Like that it has a zipper lining along with toggle fasteners for those days when it's pouring. Love the pretty floral pattern, as well as the navy polka dot lining inside the bright yellow jacket.  (from $33.80, sizes 18 months-10 years)  Sorry, this coat is no longer available.
