Gorgeous waterproof picnic blankets: if only they kept the rain away too.

Even though it's not quite summer feeling everywhere just yet, it's the official start of summer, which means picnics. Yay! We recently featured this post with our top picnic tips for parents with new babies, and number one: Use a waterproof blanket. Fortunately, we found a great Etsy shop selling a ton of them.

Sewn Natural makes lovely handmade blankets of all kinds, but it's the thoughtfully-designed waterproof picnic blankets I'm really digging right now. In polka dots, chevrons (of course), traditional checks and even Marimekko fabrics, they all roll-up into a super convenient 14" roll and button closed.

They're not cheap, but they're not like throwing an old bed sheet onto the ground either. Think about tossing one into your car on any road trip, for impromptu outdoor eating or general energy-releasing at rest stops, in lieu of holing up in the fast food joint for an hour.

Each blanket is made with an absorbent flannel core, a canvas-weight fabric on top, and denim on the bottom to keep little bottoms dry even when the ground isn't. Also, if you're getting one made to order, for an extra $18 you can add on an eco-friendly waterproof backing in yellow or red, which is made from an acrylic coated cotton that's water-based. No pthalates, no PVC. And you can still toss it in the washer when you're done.

After all, waterproof doesn't mean jelly-proof. Oh, if only. -Liz
