The Moon is Going to Addy's House by Ida Pearle
It's hard not to be completely smitten with the work of Brooklyn artist Ida Pearle as we have for ages. Her cut-paper illustrations beautifully capture the whimsy and joy of childhood. We loved her alphabet book A Child's Day: An Alphabet of Play, and now she's out with a new book called The Moon is Going to Addy's House, a magical and unique look at bedtime. My kids are hooked. In this book, Addy has been at a playdate in the city and she's headed home for bed. The family drives through the city, over the Brooklyn bridge, and toward their house in the country. The whole time, Addy is fixated on the moon and why it's following them, until she realizes that it's just going home with her to her house. Even though I don't live in a city anywhere close to the size of NYC, my kids still relate to the universal depications of playing with friends until bedtime, riding in the car, straining to see the moon, and getting a bath before bed. That's probably why my son has been falling asleep with this book in his arms lately.   What I love so much about Ida's illustrations is that they so perfectly represent those moments when we wish we could press pause and keep our kids little forever. You know, that minute or two when they're not bored or fighting -- but are simply filled with wonder about everything. You can find The Moon is Going to Addy's House by Ida Pearle at your local bookstore starting July 7, or pre-order at our affiliate Amazon now. Sweet dreams!
