Cool crafts kits for kids with a focus on global celebrations like Diwali or Chinese New Year, from Festive Roots.
My kids can easily spend an hour at the kitchen table working on a good DIY project, so I'm always on the lookout for cool crafts kits that will pique their interest. Lately, it's been the globally-minded kits from Festive Roots, which helps teach kids about cultural celebrations all across the world through crafting. Which is such a fantastic idea! Each kit includes three crafts inspired by a holiday from countries like China, India, and Mexico. The trunks come straight to your mailbox with everything -- and I mean, everything -- you'll need to complete the craft. There's no dreaded, Mom, where's our glue stick? halfway through. The kit we received even included a pair of scissors, which you could safely assume most households would already have. But this makes the Festive Roots craft kits so easy to toss in your suitcase when you're heading on vacation. What an easy way to fill up any downtime you might have at your hotel or on a long Amtrak ride. (Not so sure even kids' craft scissors would pass TSA muster for your airline carry-on.)

The crafts in the kits are easy enough for my 8-year-old to do alone without me having to help even once, but not so easy that she was bored with them. In fact, she was really proud of the projects she made and has kept them on display in her room ever since. Which is saying something, since admittedly the crafts at our house usually end up in the trash. But I think even younger kids about 4 or 5 and up will really enjoy them -- albeit with your help. And how fantastic that kids get to learn a little about the geography, culture, and festivals of countries around the world. country celebrates. Even if your kids don't dive straight into the educational info first, don't be surprised if they want to know more about these countries once they've finished the crafts -- and if they start asking to host their own Diwali celebration at home this year. Visit Festive Roots to see all their global culture craft kits, and choose from individual kits or a yearly subscription for Trunks of India or Trunks of the World. Extra cool: Use code FESTIVECMP for $5 off your purchase. And thanks to Festive Roots for providing a kit to CMP for review consideration.
