Statement Cards: For women whose achievements aren't about babies or boyfriends
I just got wind of Statement Cards, a new line of greeting cards designed to honor women's successes beyond the traditional congratulatory occasions. You know, like engagements, weddings, pregnancy and childbirth. Not that there's anything wrong with any of those things. Obviously! But the company's premise of celebrating women "not only for their value in relation to others, but also, for their own achievements and successes" is a really valuable one.  Created by self-described millennial money expert Stefanie O'Connell Rodriguez, Statement Cards have launched with a few cards celebrating milestones and moments like paying off a student loan, landing a first apartment, even an optimistic condolence for the job interview that went nowhere. They're not edgy, but they do seem to capture the current Girl Boss zeitgeist pretty well. And a nice touch: Some of the illustrations offer you a choice of skin tones. But hey, cards are not just for millennials. Or single women. I bet you can think of a few moms out there who could use a random act of celebration from you right now.

Yet.) It's not like this is the first time we've seen cards honoring achievements that don't offer a lot of card aisle options -- Emily McDowell, to me, is the queen of the category. And admittedly there's one card here in particular that kind of rubs me the wrong way. (Do women really need to be reminded that men are not "a money play"?) But overall, I like the idea of a card and gift company that's solely focused on women and achievement because I think there's a lot of places for them to go. Next step to me? The wide acceptance of a gift registry for women who buy their own homes without ever having gotten married. Looking back, I really could have used some new bedding and matching wine glasses too.
